Georgia is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Decatur wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. In fact Decatur wildlife frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Decatur Wildlife Tip:
Should I Poison Rodents? - A lot of people who find that they have a few rodents in their home wonder out loud "should I poison rodents?" The answer to that question is almost always a big no. There are more than a few reasons why poisoning a rodent in your home is a bad idea. The first one of those reasons is safety. If you have pets or small children either one of them could end up swallowing some of the poison which is life-threatening for either one of them. Using poison in those cases is not even one of the options you should consider.

There is also the fact that it is a bad idea. Some people believe that when poisoned the rodent go and die outside. That is not true and you should not believe it. The rodent will go directly to its hiding place and if that hiding place is in the wall or somewhere you cannot find it, then your home will smell like dead rodent for many days. The final reason not to use poison is because it is inhumane. Most people who use poison use mouse poison. That poison is not nearly enough what a rodent would need, so the poison that you gave the rodent only tortured it until the end.

Decatur, GA Animal Control News Clip:
I just wrote to you wondering if I had bats in my chimney, but wonder if it could be raccoons. I am frightened and don't know what to do. Afraid it may chew through blocked chimney. Or maybe just coming in and out. Read on internet it could be raccoons. Don't hear squealing or anything other than movement of or scratching or chewing. Jut loud sounds and then it stops. I need some information about who should and could come and how quickly and cost. I have two kittens and it worries me to be in home if something can harm us. This is my third email as I just realized that I didn't mention that this blocked fireplace and chimney I am referring to is where my furnace is connected, so I am limited to what I can do. I don't hear any chirping or flapping of wings so I am afraid it is some kind of animal or animals. My husband was going to block the chimney but internet research says this could be dangerous. For tonight we are going to put flower on the roof and newspaper over the chimney opening and see what we can find out, if anything. Please be sure to respond as quickly as possible. We would certainly appreciate it. We did not have this problem over the winter, just in the last week or couple of weeks ago. It went away for a while (maybe when furnace didn't go on) but seemed to return this morning. Carol

Hi David, I stumbled over your site today. I am in south-east Atlanta. I should tell you that the photographs of your "Brown Widow" spider are actually photos of the Atlanta area "Redback Spider". Check it out on Wikipedia. I am curious how it got into Florida. Certainly the warmer climate there would be ideal for them. If I were you, I'd report it to your local environmental agency. They might be interested in knowing that they have a foreign species in the area. The Redbacks are quite common in the warmer areas of Atlanta GA, like where I live. They typically live in hot, sunny places, like metal roof guttering, playground equipment, handles of shovels or shoes if you leave them outside in a sunny spot. One gets into the habit of checking the "yard boots" before putting them on, and wiggling the toes vigorously when putting them on to make sure that if one is in there it is killed before it bites. Alternatively, you don't leave them in a sunny spot and the redbacks won't nest in them. I have a dozen or so living in the weep-holes of the brick wall of my house that faces west - getting the hot afternoon sun. Every summer, I eradicate them on a regular basis, but a few weeks later they are back. One just learns to live with them. Their numbers dwindle (as in rarely see them) in the cooler winter months. I also am careful not to harm the "Daddy Long-Legs" spiders (Pholcus phalangioides) because they are known to kill & eat Redbacks. I personally have never been bitten, but several friends have. They say it hurts like hell! Regards, James
