However, you still need the rats gone, so what are you going to do? A common method is to go homemade - including with rat poison. The poisons that you create are going to be different than you might imagine, though. Homemade rat poison uses mostly ingredients that you have in your kitchen, including sugar and baking soda. Some types of rat poison will also use a special ingredient, plaster of Paris. These poisons are effective and should remove your rat problem, but without any toxic or dangerous ingredients involved.

Plaster of Paris

One of the most common ingredients in homemade rat poison is plaster of Paris. It is a crafting powder used for creating chalks and other art tools. When you add liquid to it, it begins to harden. Used alongside other ingredients, it makes an effective rat poison. You can find it at most crafting stores online or in your city, with large containers costing very little.

Getting rats to eat foods like dry rice or dehydrated potato flakes the dry boxed mashed potatoes may work. While it is not as effective as the others, this food can expand in the animals' stomach if they eat too much of it. Once it begins to expand, their stomachs will rupture.
