Louisiana is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Metairie wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Metairie animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Metairie Wildlife Tip:
What are some of the symptoms of a sick opossum?

As a wildlife animal, a sick possum will not show off any signs of illness such as dogs or cats and, so you should be very watchful in trying to catch some signs. For some of the most typical diseases that can be seen among mammals and some signs to watch out for. There are signs that will show off for you to know if the possum is sick of rabies or any other diseases.

Signs of rabies

Rabies is highly contagious and it is highly infectious. It is also very typical among mammals. It may be easily transferred from one mammal to another like that from the possum to your domesticated pet or even to you or to any other member of the family through flea bites and direct contact with the fluids. If the possum is sick of rabies, you will know because it will show off in their attitude or behavior. They will be aggressive, they are scared of water, aggressive, anxious, confused, their saliva is too much, fever, insomnia, inflammation in the affected area, hallucination, muscle atrophy, tingling sensation and others. If you were to encounter a sick possum, you may think of the signs and stay away from them. It will be best to call the authorities to get some help, especially if the possum is roaming around your property.

Signs of Tularemia

Tularemia is not a typical disease as rabies and it is a rare disease. On the other hand, just like the rabies, it is highly contagious and if you have found a possum with this condition, you will know by looking at the eyes and the skin, however their lungs and their lymph nodes are also affected. Most of the typical signs of tularemia will hit the skin and the animal will suffer from chills, fever, headaches, skin ulcers, exhaustion and swollen lymph nodes to name some. Just like the animals that show some signs of rabies, it is best to not approach the animals with these signs, because you will be at risk as well.

Be cautious

If you are in a place where you must deal with a possum, you need to keep in mind that there are proper gears to wear from head to foot. This can help in minimizing direct contact with the animal, wash your hands after handling the animal. They have the proper equipment and training in handling sick possums with and without the creature or just to leave it to the experts if possible. Animal handling must be done with cautiousness, but if possible, never deal with the animals, because you are not trained to do that. It will be too risky for you. Never attempt if you are not an expert.
