Maryland is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Pikesville wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Pikesville animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

County Animal ServicesDOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Baltimore County Animal Control for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Baltimore County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that helps with dog and cat issues only.

Pikesville Wildlife Tip:
Do groundhogs make good pets?

Groundhogs are very cute animals. They are smallish and seem like they would be able to live side by side with humans. They are not aggressive and will not attack humans or other animals unless they feel threatened. This does not necessarily translate into them making good pets. You should never take an animal out of the wild and try to make it into a pet. However, some groundhogs that have been injured and have been out of the wild for too long might be unable to fend for themselves. The same goes for groundhogs born in captivity.

Intelligence

Groundhogs are intelligent creatures and if raised correctly they can make very affectionate pets. They are, however, still wild animals and will need to be treated accordingly.

Keeping them in cages

Groundhogs will chew through almost anything. This means that once they find a way out their cage they will either start chewing on your possessions or they will simply escape. If they are not used to fending for themselves, this will lead to them dying from starvation, dehydration or getting eaten by predators. Groundhogs do not fare well in cages. If you find yourself the owner of a pet groundhog, you will need a large garden for it to live in. It will need exercise and will burrow in the yard.

Hibernation

Groundhogs hibernate in winter. This means that they will need to have a quiet, dark place in which to sleep from November to March. You will need to ensure that you have a plethora of fresh vegetables when they wake up as they will be hungry.

Babies

Once a groundhog wakes up from hibernation it will start looking for a mate. They are biologically inclined to mate so this will be something that you need to handle.

Groundhogs and other pets

Groundhogs are not overly fond of dogs and vice versa. You might be lucky and end up with two pets who love each other. Chances are that this is not the case. If you do have a pet groundhog, it is better if they are the only pet. You have no way of determining beforehand whether they will get along. They get along much better with cats than with dogs.

Forums

You will be able to find some forums on the internet to help you. Some people do indeed keep groundhogs as pets and they will be able to give some much-needed advice.
