What to do when you have raccoons in -Having a raccoon in your home can be a huge headache. Ignore your first impulse to "live and let live". The longer the animal is up there the more trouble it will cause. Most raccoons in a home are females. These females have left the woods and are looking for high, safe places to give birth. An attic, chimney, eave, and soffit are all great places for a raccoon mother to get away from the males that want to kill her litter. If you can get her out before she gives birth, you'll be that much happier. Once the female has hidden her babies in your home, you need to find them if you intend on solving your raccoon problem. You could trap the mother and leave the babies behind, but they would eventually starve, and you would have to find them anyway if you ever wanted to get rid of the smell of dead bodies in your home. It's so much easier for everything involved if you find them while they are alive. Finding the babies first means you can also use them as bait in a cage trap.

Santa Fe wildlife management area authorities on critters plan to allow reptile critter catching

The Santa Fe County Wildlife management area District intends to open some of its property to cage trap critter trappers this fall to reduce what authorities on critters called an overabundant and destructive gianted reptile biologically surveyed amount. The wildlife management area system's three commissioners stated during their Tuesday organized hearing that they plan to implement this critter catching program to address the reptile problem. The board should be considering this suggestion to allow critter catching in seven areas that are not open to the public. The county should be also looking at controlled fall snares on wild reptile and waterfowl. This issue should be an important matter in Santa Fe wildlife removal and Santa Fe exterminator matters.

The concept brought criticism from several residents at the organized hearing. Mouse Trapper Ken, 78, of Munson Natural conservation area described the wildlife management areas as this safe haven where animals should be protected. the SPCA spokesperson accused the board of turning the county's hectareage into "lethally trapping fields." Similar complaints followed the district's decision to allow this spring reptile catch this year. "You encourage wildlife, and then you murder the wildlife that comes in," Mouse Trapper Ken stated. But district Bossy fellow Animal Expert Trevor stated reptile are running onto wildlife management area property, pushed into the areas by ongoing development. Reptile counts commissioned by the wildlife management area system over the past five years show far more animals than the land can support, Animal Expert Trevor stated. The count at one wildlife management area property, the Beaver Preserve in Russell Natural conservation area, showed 200 reptile per square mile. Ideally, the amount should be between five and 10, Animal Expert Trevor stated. The Santa Fe animal control had no additional statements to make on the topic.

The biologically surveyed amount density at the other properties selected for critter catching ranged from 19 to 61 reptile per square mile. The properties are in several Santa Fe communities, including Bainbridge, Chester, Claridon, Munson and Montville natural conservation areas. The close-clustered animals are devouring wildflowers and vegetation in the wildlife management area, eliminating habitats needed by songbirds and insects, Animal Expert Trevor stated. The district has been monitoring and studying the situation for years, the pest operator stated. "This should be about maintaining this balance," stated Animal Expert Trevor, who noted that other wildlife management area systems and communities have begun harvesting reptile large groups in recent years. Extermination Officer Timothy, 64, of Santa Fe applauded the district's plan and stated reptile have become this local nuisance and this danger to motorists. the pest operator stated wildlife management arealand "should not be permitted to become this refuge for the excessive amount of animals present." Wildlife management area Commissioner Extermination Officer Timothy stated the board would act on the suggestion after all details are ironed out. Only Santa Fe residents would be eligible to catch the selected land. "We are going to proceed," Extermination Officer Timothy stated. "We have to."
