South Carolina is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Landrum wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Landrum animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Landrum Wildlife Tip:
Is There Anything I Should Do about a Squirrel Under My Porch?

Squirrels are relentless little animals. They spend all spring, summer, and fall preparing for the long winter by burying food all around an area where they have built a nest. They truly are industrious critters. Something that is to be admired.

Where Your Admiration Ends

While you may find the squirrel remarkable, that doesn't mean you wanted in or around your house. You may be perfectly fine with it in the trees are running across your lawn, but a boundary has been crossed when it is living under your porch.

This is understandable. Squirrels are the carriers of a number of diseases, and this puts your family at risk. Even if you don't come in direct contact with the squirrel, it's waste still poses a risk to you. This is especially true if you have a nosy dog or cat that would find the squirrel's nest an irresistible place to visit. The last thing you need is your dog to be infected with some kind of parasite.

Taking the Right Steps

You may decide that you need to get rid of the squirrel. However, keeping the squirrel away from your porch area is not always easy. Most porches are not enclosed, and squirrels are good at digging or finding some kind of entryway even if yours is. That puts you at a disadvantage.

It doesn't mean you are sunk, however. You can get this animal out from underneath your porch, but you have to do a few things.

Step 1

Squirrels are animals that hunt for food during the day. This is your opportunity. If you have an enclosed porch, once the squirrel leaves this is your opportunity to take action. Seal any entryway the critter is using to gain access under your porch. If it is digging its way underneath, then you need to fill that area with jagged rocks, maybe even with glass.

Something that will make it difficult for it to dig. In fact, it would probably be a good idea to dig all the way around your porch and apply jagged rocks that you bury. This will deny it from attempting to dig its way into your porch area at another location.

Step 2

If you have an open porch area, then the you may need to consider using more drastic options. One of the best is predator urine. You can get the urine of a coyote or fox and put it around your porch area. This will most definitely scare away the squirrel. It may also scare away your friends and family who may not like that smell very much. That could be a good thing too.

Clearly, having an open porch area is a bit of a challenge. It is not impossible to keep the squirrel away, however. There were also repellents available. They have limited success, but are not nearly as successful as predator urine. These tips should definitely help you to resolve your squirrel problem.
