Texas is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional The Woodlands wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some The Woodlands animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

County Animal ServicesDOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Harris County Animal Control for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Harris County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that helps with dog and cat issues only.

The Woodlands Wildlife Tip:
Do Skunks Attack Chickens?

A lot of people question if skunks kill chickens. The answer is, "Yes." To poultry owners it is a well-known fact that skunks like to break into farm buildings to kill chickens and other small animals. Getting rid of skunks is not easy. Whatever method you use; trapping, hunting, or chasing them, there is a great chance that you will be sprayed. The spray has a horrible odor which is very difficult to get rid of. During the long length of time it takes to remove the skunks, farmers can experience substantial damage in loss of poultry.

Skunks can be found throughout the United States as well as in northern Mexico and southern Canada. They live in a wide variety of environments such as woodlands, grasslands, and farmlands. They are also often found in urban areas.

Chickens are easy prey for skunks because of their small size and build. The chickens are easily frightened, fragile, and without defense. Chickens do not have any built-in defenses that can be used as weapons so they are unable to fight back. Therefore, when a skunk gains access to a chicken coop it can kill a lot of chickens in a very short period of time. A farmer can check his coop in the morning and find his chicken population has been killed. Even if some chickens should survive, they may be infected from skunk-carrying diseases.

Skunks like chickens because of the nutrition they provide. Since the chickens are made up of dense muscle mass, they are a wonderful source of protein and fat that is easily accessible.

To provide safety and protection for your chickens make sure that the coops are tight and the fencing can keep the skunks out. Baby chicks should be housed in a secure brooder. Skunks don't usually break through fencing, but are on the lookout for weak areas or places that are loose and buildings and fences. Skunks are very good at digging and have been known to dig under fences to get to their prey. One option is to put paving slabs around the outside of the coop. Another is to place hardware cloth or welded wire at the bottom of the fence. These actions will keep the skunks from being able to dig their way in. If you know or think have a skunk problem, try setting a live trap with bait.
