Virginia is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Woodbridge wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Woodbridge animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Woodbridge Wildlife Tip:
Tips to identify a Skunk Hole
Skunks are small black and white striped mammals. They are known to spray obnoxious smelling liquid in their defense. But they are also known to make burrows and holes with their claws. These borrow and holes when made near houses can cause structural damage. Hence it becomes important to identify holes that may have been made by skunks and to find ways to discourage this activity.

Burrow or a hole
Skunks like to eat insects and grubs. In order to search for their favorite food they would dig holes with their claws. These holes are not very deep and are small in size. The holes are cone shaped. The size of the holes is generally 2 inches.

On the other hand, burrows are built by skunks for a number of purposes. They build them to protect themselves from extreme weather and also from other animals. They use these burrows to give birth to their babies. These burrows that they use as their homes are much larger than the holes that they dig for food. In fact these burrows might even have some partitions and also many entry and exit points. This helps them escape quickly when faced with danger. These burrows have entrances that are nearly 8 inches in size.

Identifying a skunk hole
Holes that look freshly dug and are surrounded by a certain odor are most probably skunk holes. In order to be certain that these holes have been dug by skunks you can fill the holes with a little dirt. After some days if you see that the hole has been opened again than these holes are probably skunk holes only.

Another way to identify that skunks are around is through their paw marks and their droppings. Since skunks eat insects, their droppings might contain some undigested parts of insects. Also skunks paw marks are unique. Skunks paws have 5 toes but the fifth toe is not very visible in their track marks. Also their claws are pretty big hence you can see the claw marks also on their tracks.

Problems caused by Skunks and their holes
Skunks eat plants and leaves and insects. They would not only eat what is growing in the garden but would also make holes in the garden to find insects. This way they destroy the garden completely. In case they decide to make your backyard their home then their deep burrows might damage your building structure. Other than this, skunks are also carrier of certain diseases and hence if found should be removed.Preventing skunks from making holes
A fence should be installed around the area susceptible to skunk damage. If skunks have already made their way in the area, then after getting them removed the holes should be filled up, grass should be cut and rocks and other piles of stuff be removed. Once all this is done, the area should be properly fenced and sealed.

Skunks should be prevented from entering areas near the home not only because of the structural damage they cause but also because of the health problem they might create.
