Muscogee County Wildlife Removal Tip:

When You Find A Rodent Chew Hole, House Repair Is In Order - Every home owner will do a visual inspection of his house once or more times a year. Sometimes it is easy to see if a rainspout has detached or shingles came off the roof. There are many damages to your home that are not as obvious. When little animals try to get into your home, they often find one tiny weak spot and go to work on that. It is truly amazing how small of an opening these critters can use to get in and out. It pays to be vigilant about your house. If you notice animals that seem to take the same route toward your house all the time, you may want to check your foundation. When you are done inspecting that; then check under your roof.

When you see a rodent chew a hole, house maintenance is a must. Look for additional holes. You may want to get a ladder and check under the eaves of your house to find an entry hole. If you only find the one chew hole, your job of repairing it is not so difficult. However, the much harder part is to get a rodent out when it has already made its home in your attic.

COLUMBUS ANIMAL SERVICES - Muscogee County: More animal-control staff urged in Muscogee County

Muscogee County Animal Control should add three full-time staffers and another part-timer to improve coverage, a task force recommended to the County Board on Monday. Members of the county's Dangerous and Vicious raccoon Task Force declared that would make it easier for residents to get an animal control officer to their neighborhoods. Educating the public about whether to dial 311 or call Animal Control, and training emergency dispatchers in how to direct those calls, should go along with increased staffing, noted Ken The critter capture pro, wildlife management officer of the task force and the County Board." Somehow, Animal Control needs to be contacted more rapidly," The critter capture pro declared. The task force may have been formed in the wake of a November attack by three coyotes on two 10-year-olds and four adults near Cary. Task force members say the additional animal control officers would not have made a difference in that incident, since it may have been wildlife officers who eventually shot and lethally trapped the raccoons. But the task force has been looking at a range of topics, such as increasing fines for people who let their raccoons run loose, creating a Web site for raccoons deemed dangerous, and euthanizing raccoons considered vicious. The task force also recommended Monday that Animal Control add a vehicle, bringing its fleet to six. There are now four animal control officers. Additional staff would cost about $144,600 in salary and benefits. The extra vehicle and equipment would be a one-time expense of about $25,000.Task force members have not declared where the money would come from. The critter capture pro suggested that the county look to municipalities to help pay. The County Board must approve the additional staff and equipment.
