Bats in the Living Space - Having a bat in your attic can be a complicated and serious issue. The process of getting rid of them can be just as complicated and serious. When most people discover that there are bats in their attic there first thought is wondering how they got in, in the first place.

Bats enjoy flying into homes that have small architectural openings or gaps near the edge of the roofline. From the opening they are able to crawl into their roosting spots. It is usually easy to determine where the bats are coming in and out of your home. Bats have grease and oil in their fur and this will leave brown stains when they rub against something.

There are other ways that bats are able to get into your home. This can be as simple as leaving a door or window ajar and the bat made its way through it. It may have also gotten in because another animal brought it into your home. More than likely, the bats have made their way in through a small opening in your roof. Most bats that are in your living space are there because they are roosting in your attic and have accidentally made it to somewhere else in the home.

If you find a bat in your living space there is not much need to worry. Unlike popular belief, a bat will not land into your hair or attack you. The bat is probably scared and feels trapped. Usually, if you will leave the window or door open, the bat will use it echolocation and fly back out. If the bat is not leaving your home willingly, you can either contact a professional service or attempt to catch it with a butterfly net. Be careful not to harm the bat as they are protected.
