In my job as a wildlife control operator, I usually deal with the same 8 types of animals: raccoons, squirrels, rats, opossums, armadillos, snakes, bats, and birds. However, from time to time I get a chance to handle an uncommon species. I really relish these jobs. The above photos are all of animals that I don't usually handle. A bobcat caught by accident - This story goes back almost a decade (you can tell by looking at the picture. I look so young!). I got a call from these homeowners who were sick of an armadillo rampage in their garden. They wanted me to get rid of the armadillos as soon as possible. I did catch an armadillo and got rid of it too but the residents wanted me to continue putting the trap in case there were more. Anyways, a day or two later I got a call from the house informing me that they had caught something. As I was about to heave a sigh of relief, the caller dropped a bombshell on me – it was a bobcat.

Admittedly I was skeptical because 9 out of 10 times, people mistake an ordinary street feline for a bobcat but I did reach the site. To my surprise, this was the one time that someone recognized a bobcat right and I have to say that it was an adorable one. I would have touched it if I didn’t fear it would nibble my fingers. I had the option of calling wildlife conservation but I decided not to. This poor fellow was caught probably thinking there was something interesting inside the trap and I kind of felt bad for it. Luckily, the house was close to the woods and so, I decided to let it go free in the wilderness.

Carrying the cage towards the edge of the woods, I slowly opened the cage door. At first, the cat did not know how to react (maybe he was too moved by my kind gesture), but a moment later it realized that the cage door was open and leaped out of the trap. I watched it go deeper and deeper into the forest, feeling happy inside. Not only did I get to work with an animal I hadn’t worked with before, I also got a chance to let it be free. What a great day!

AAAnimal Control is a privately owned wildlife removal and pest control business, located in Orlando Florida. I deal strictly with wild animals including ones that have died inside houses. I am not an extermination company, but a critter removal and control specialist. The above photos are some of the many that I've taken in the field over my years of work.
