There are many tips and ideas posted on the Internet that will explain to you how you can rid yourself of snakes on your property. They all assure you that they are the absolute solution to this problem, but you have to ask yourself if these really work or not? Even if they make the claim that it does, you don't really know for sure, so how can you know if it will work?

This is a good question, because there are plenty of articles and teachings out there that assure you that they have the solution to this problem. One of these tells you that you can use either sulfur or lime to get rid of a snake. The logic behind them sounds good but you may wonder does sulfur or lime keep snakes away for real?

The Answer about Lime

You will likely find a whole lot of articles that assure you that lime, more accurately referred to as calcium carbonate, is a surefire way to keep a snake away. The articles describe that if you take the lime and put it around your property that the snake will find it to be too irritating and will stay away. This sounds like a really great idea, but there are no results that support it as a solution whatsoever.

Snakes are not deterred by lime. They may find it a little irritating, but it will not keep them away whatsoever.

However, it can be a poison to you, your pets, your family, and to your property. As it becomes wet this compound becomes quite caustic and can lead to severe burns. That surely doesn't sound like a great remedy for you.

The sad part about it is that the snake scales may be sufficient protection to keep it from being burned by the caustic material. So, all you may find is that by using lime it's really you that gets burned.

The Answer about Sulfur

Well, if lime does not work then surely sulfur must. That would sound like good reasoning, but that was good reasoning to believe that lime would work and now we know that it doesn't.

Unfortunately, sulfur has as much effectiveness as lime does. You can place sulfur around your property to try to get rid of the snakes, but in tests that have been conducted at several universities the results have found that this is not successful at all.

In fact, the opposite is true in a sense. The sulfur does irritate the snake. However, it does not force the snake away, but instead makes it quite angry. Now instead of getting rid of your snake, you have an irritated one on your property. If this does not sound like a recipe for disaster, then who really knows what one is.

You are looking for ways to keep snakes off of your property; just know that these two options are not the solution for you. There are successful ways to accomplish this, so look for those. For more information, you may want to click on one of these guides that I wrote:
