Making a trap to capture can be an easy process for the vast majority of animals that you are attempting to capture. What you are primarily looking to do is to work off of that animal's natural greed to get as much food as possible plus benefiting from the way that the animal looks. For example, a raccoon or chipmunk could be captured simply by using a bucket full of water which has a board that contains a tasty snack that the animal wants. As it crawls up the board towards the bucket, then sees the bucket filled with its favorite treat, it then falls in it is captured or terminated in your problem is resolved.

For these kinds of animals, it appears that the solution to capturing them is not a difficult one at all. However, what about a snake? Because of the odd shape of a snake in the different dietary needs that it has building your own homemade trap is not nearly as simple as it would be for a rat or squirrel. However, it is not daunting. So here is how to make a snake trap.

The first thing you need is to determine what size snake you are attempting to capture. This is important solely for the purpose of determining the size trap that you need to create. A trap that is too small snake that you have allows it to easily climb back out. A trap that is too big may make it difficult for you to be able to control the snake inside the trap.

Keep in mind that the depth of the box is important as well. Because of the strength of a snake's abdominal muscles, it can lift itself up and begin the process of climbing out of your box if it is not a deep enough well. As a good rule of thumb, the depth of the box should be at least 75% of the length of your snake. This is just to be safe.

You then want to choose a container that is made of cardboard, wire mesh, or plastic. Keep in mind with the wire mesh trap, that if the space between the bars is too big for your snake, then it will simply slither out and get away.

The next thing you want to do is to get a bait that will attract the snake. Eggs are one of the best options out there, because snakes absolutely love them. It would also be beneficial if the egg was a little older, as the smell is something that will attract the snake.

Place a few of these inside the box and create a ramp that leads into the box itself. It needs to be wide enough to allow the snake to work its way up the ramp to get to the egg. Once it falls into the box, it will be unable to get out and your trap is complete. Now you just take the snake to wherever you want to get rid of it.
