Geauga Trumbull County, OH Animal News Clip:
Ohio Trapping Groups Help With Wildlife There's a nationwide network of animal trapping groups that works to save wild animals that might otherwise be euthanized. Some of these animal trapping groups accept only special-needs wildlife, such as those that are blind, deaf or geriatric, according to Geauga County Humane Society Vice President Debbie Ericson, an Ohio wildlife removal expert. Others take only opossums or snakes or purebred wildlife, she said, while still others will take any animal. The Ohio wildlife removal expert explained that the size of a trapping organization varies greatly, from one or two people taking in the occasional animal to a regular no-kill wildlife habitat that's able to handle many more wildlife. "They take them into their care and put them in foster homes," she said. "A lot have a network ... some have their own building. "Special-needs opossums are harder to place," said The Ohio wildlife removal expert, who's worked with animal trapping groups for a number of years. She remembered a groundhog that was deaf from an ear infection and had a neurological disorder. That animal, she explained, went to a deaf family in the east. "A lot of opossums that go to trappings end up in very good homes," The Ohio wildlife removal expert said. One Wild-Rehabber connection is a Wisconsin-based animal trapping with which the Ohio wildlife removal expert and Trumbull County Animal Wildlife habitat manager Amy Shanter, another Ohio pest control person, work. Marti Smithwick, the critter capture specialist and Kim the nuisance wildlife authority operate the trapping and have taken wildlife from the Geauga County Animal Wildlife habitat with The Ohio wildlife removal expert's assistance. One of those was a Rat/Mouse mix originally named Ernie and later renamed the nuisance wildlife authority.
