Arizona is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Gilbert wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Gilbert animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

County Animal ServicesDOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Maricopa County Animal Control for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Maricopa County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that helps with dog and cat issues only.

Gilbert Wildlife Tip:
Do Possums Climb Trees or Live in Trees?

The possum- generally called the Virginian Opossum- is one of the most misunderstood wildlife creatures, especially regarding how they act, as well as where they live. Most people know that possums are nocturnal, but often are confused when they find out that a possum can climb trees. Many times, people will wonder if possums either live in trees, or simply climb them to find food. However, the possum is incredibly easy to understand with just a few simple facts.

Possums can live anywhere, but especially enjoy living in places that have lots of trees, and are near water. However, possums are also often seen in cities, or other people-populated areas, especially due to the proximity to trashcans and roadkill, both of which are the possums' favorite foods. Oftentimes, possums will not build their own shelters, instead taking over the shelter of other animals, such as skunks and foxes, and bringing in their own nesting materials to make it more comfortable for themselves, and sometimes their pups. In addition to these areas, possums will often also hole up in attics, or under garages, where they will have plenty of room to roam, as well as a steady supply of food.

Possums are mostly nocturnal animals- meaning that they are more active during the night most of the time. They will often come out of their dens from nightfall to sunset, to scavenge for their food, retreating before the sunrise. However, during the winter, when food is not easily obtainable, they may become active during the daytime, leading to an increase of possum sightings by homeowners.

Despite some of these sightings being of possums climbing trees, as well as humans sometimes seeing young possums hanging from a tree branch in the daytime, possums are generally terrestrial animals. This means that most, if not all, of possums' time is spent on the ground, not in trees. Sometimes, young possums will, in fact, climb trees, often hanging by their tails from branches; however, due in part to the weight of an adult possum, that is not possible for them. While possum's tails have great gripping ability, they can't hold the full weight of the possum for long periods of time, inhibiting their ability to stay in trees for longer periods. If you see a possum climbing a tree, therefore, it is often for one of two main reasons: either they are looking for food, persimmon fruits are their favorite snacks, or they are trying to escape one of their many natural predators.

Possums are often one of the sneakiest creatures in the wild, and can carry a host of diseases when left in the wild. If you see a possum in the wild, always keep your distance, and be careful when approaching. If you are having problems with a possum infestation in your yard or attic, contact a wildlife removal specialist, and never attempt to trap one by yourself.
