Colorado is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Parker wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Parker animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

County Animal ServicesDOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Douglas County Animal Control for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Douglas County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that helps with dog and cat issues only.

Parker Wildlife Tip:

Getting squirrels out of the attic

Now when you first spot a squirrel in your attic, you may be tempted to leave it alone. Maybe even throw a few nuts and berries its way, and watch it stuff down its little mouth. They're so fuzzy and cute, you may think. Well, remember how rats are a big problem and how they carry a ton of nasty diseases?

What if I told you that any disease you could catch from a rat, you could catch it from a squirrel just as easily? Certainly changes your perspective on the whole matter, doesn't it? So, what can you do to drive these animals out?

Preparations

Before you get down to driving the squirrels out, there are some preparations you need to take. First, don protective gear (cover your body completely to avoid getting bitten) and enter the attic.

Next, you need to identify how the squirrel got in, like a hole in the roof or a crack in the wall, and seal up all openings but one, the one you want the squirrel to leave through. It's a smart idea to remove any visible sources of food from the area and to send your pets outside the house so that they don't come in contact with a potentially rabid squirrel.

Scaring them away

The easiest option you can take is to try and scare away the squirrel. While your mere presence in the attic could achieve this, in most cases you'd have to make a little extra effort since the squirrel needs more "convincing" to leave your warm and safe attic. In this scenario try using strobing lights and sounds from the radio. You can even use repellents like fox urine to scare the squirrel away. Once it's left through the hole, you left open for it, seal it up so it can't return later.

Trapping and relocation

If scaring the squirrel doesn't work, you could try trapping and relocating the animal. A readily available one-way door cage trap is best suited for this purpose. Simply set it up in the attic, using toast with peanut butter as bait (or anything else that could work), and leave the attic undisturbed for a few hours.

When you return, the squirrel should be secure in the cage ready for relocation, at least 5 km away from your home.

Calling the experts

However, if you feel like you're unable to catch the squirrel on your own, or just worried about hurting the animal because of your inexperience, then calling in wildlife control would be the responsible thing to do. They've dealt with cases like this before and would be skilled and equipped to take the matter out of your hands and solve it.
