Delaware is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Kent County wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Kent County animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Kent County Wildlife Tip:
What equipment is needed to trap a rodent?

If you have rodents in your home, it is most likely rats, mice, bats, or squirrels. These are your most like suspects, and can all be trapped in much the same way. Here are some traps and a little about them.

GLUE TRAPS (one time use) - a sticky board that traps the animal in a glue like substance and keeps it there until it dies from starvation or exposure. These are a bad idea for obvious reasons a horrible death, and a gross dead body to deal with. Other animals can also get accidentally stuff and suffer. It is important to remember where you put these out and check them often since you must dispose of the body.

SNAP TRAPS (reusable, or throw away) - these normally consist of a board that has a spot to hold bait on a pressure plate. When the trap is sprung a large metal bar swings across the board slamming shut across the unsuspecting creature's middle or neck. If the animal is the right size (these come in different sizes), and they work correctly, it is killed almost instantly. If not, they could b trapped alive and bleed out slowly. In some cases, they manage to escape and go off to die. Like glue traps, you want to check these often to remove bodies and reset the traps.

ELECTRIC "ZAP" Traps (reusable) - These use electric current that is activated as the creature walks across the plate to the bait tray, or just happens to run across the trap. This trap comes in assorted sizes as well, and is successful. It requires a little more attention, because the bodies have to be removed as they are zapped to allow another capture.

LIVE TRAPS- these are a wire cage box or solid wall box that has a door that seals after the creature enters. It can be a one-way door, or a more sophisticated drop down door. The animal enters to grab the bait, triggers the trap, and is caught. You need to watch this trap as well. You must get rid of the live animal and reset the trap. Do not leave the animal in the trap to suffer please!

EXCLUSION FUNNEL-this ingenious device is a simple funnel made form hardware cloth and installed over any existing rodent hole to the outside. The large end of the funnel allows the creature to leave, but it cannot re-inter through the narrow end. The creature must seek shelter elsewhere. If you do not want to simply "let them leave", this funnel can be fitted with a cage that will allow you to capture multiple creatures at once. Keep in mind; you must have a place to relocate them!

These traps are the most common and well-used varieties around today. If you shop around, you may find other styles, after all there is always someone looking to make a better mouse trap!
