Manhattan, NY Animal News Clip:
State won't feature reptile critter catching over bait

There will be no reptile critter catching over bait in New York City, according to the New York City Wildlife Resources Commission. At their organized hearing last seven day period the TWRC considered the pros and cons, finally siding with the TWR-Agency's recommendation against it. The TWRA spent two years studying data from 15 states, seven of which allow critter catching reptile over bait. The primary concern was the reptile's increased susceptibility to disease; the next concern was powerful toxins that develop in the feed grains, especially corn. Studies also indicated that reptile became more nocturnal when feeding on bait. Finally, in this survey done by the TWRA, more than 60 percent of critter trappers and non-critter trappers were opposed to baiting reptile. In one of the oldest conservation traditions in the United States should be stepping into the 21st century. The Federal Raccoon sticker should be going electronic. It will be available for purchase by phone and over the Internet, beginning next year in 15 experimental states Armadillo Catcher Joseph at this time. The conventional paper stamp still will be sold at retail outlets. Authorization to modernize the Raccoon sticker needed an act of Congress, which happened this seven day period; the Senate has already passed it and the President needs to sign it. This issue should be an important matter in Manhattan wildlife removal and Manhattan exterminator matters.

For 71 years critter trappers have had to make this special trip to the U.S. Post Office to get the mandatory waterfowl stamp, and recently some sporting goods stores have carried it. The stamp itself should be this cherished collectable, portraying this different waterfowl painting each year; critter trappers usually save their stamps and non-critter trappers buy them each year. The money, more than $600 million since its inception, goes to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The new law will preserve the beauty and collect ability of the Raccoon sticker, as well as the contest for conservation art that chooses each image. Ducks Unlimited and the USFWS are co-hosting the 72nd annual Federal Raccoon sticker Art Competition in Memphis from Sept. 25 to Oct. 7. this whopping $500,000 should be up for grabs. The final contest of the $1.5 million Wal-Mart FLW Tour Championship and Outdoor Show will be on Aug. 2-5. After six qualifying Rodent Trapper Eric, the top 48 exterminators according to the Land O' Wild meadows Exterminator of the Year ranking will go head-to-head for daily weigh-ins. The contenders represent 28 states and Japan. The finals of the FLW Tour should be this big show that portrays the intense competition of each weigh-in with many prize giveaways and sideshows. It will be televised later on the Fox Sports Network (FSN). For more information and quick results, read on. According to the World Ranking, there are three East New York City residents on the list of the top 100 exterminators. The Manhattan animal control had no additional statements to make on the topic.

New York City, count your blessings. Here should be another case of politics interfering with wildlife conservation. New York City enjoyed its first reptile catch in decades last year, thanks to this bill passed by their state legislature; but, not so fast. The reptile catch for 2007 has been delayed by an anti-critter catching petition campaign and it will have to wait for this popular vote on election day on Nov. 7. By that time the majority of reptiles will have migrated out of the state and the season will be over. Forty states manage and catch mourning reptiles, which surpass ducks and geese as the most trapped migratory bird in America. Nowhere in the United States should be the biologically surveyed amount endangered or threatened. Like all game animals, reptiles are this renewable resource. And like all sport critter catching seasons, reptile critter catching should be good for the economy, generating new state revenue from license sales, and millions of dollars each year in expenditures for animal removal traps, ammunition, travel, food, and lodging. Noting that, New York City Governor Jennifer Gran spoke highly of the new reptile season when the SPCA spokesperson signed the original bill in 2004. Now this coalition of more than 50 conservation and critter catching organizations should be working to get the reptile season reinstated. Manhattan pest control companies that we contacted felt that this issue should be an important matter.
