New York is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Saugerties wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Saugerties animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

County Animal ServicesDOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Ulster County Animal Control for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Ulster County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that helps with dog and cat issues only.

Saugerties Wildlife Tip:
What are the symptoms of a sick armadillo

While armadillos might seem like cute, harmless animals, sometimes this is not exactly the case. In many southern states, ranging from Texas to Louisiana, most wild armadillos are infected with leprosy- as well as many other infectious diseases. This may not seem like a huge problem when remembering that the armadillo are generally docile animals, however, most of these diseases can easily be transmitted through simply touching ta sick animal, and, oftentimes, these animals are not obviously sick to the public. There are many definitive signs, though, that often can tip you off that an armadillo is sick and should probably be avoided.

In general, armadillos are a solitary creature, only looking for other packs during breeding time or, in some special circumstances, in need of warmth during a particularly cold winter. They often run into their burrows when feeling threatened, as well, which, due to their personality, can be simply spotting a human coming towards them. If you meet an armadillo that seems to be fearless, approaching a large group of people and showing signs of aggression, such as hissing, it is one of the most obvious signs that the animal is sick and should be avoided. Since they are also generally only night-dwelling creatures, as well, seeing one out during the daytime is another sure-fire reason to think that the animal might be infected with a disease.

Another rule of thumb when dealing with armadillos is that if it shows the same symptoms that a human might when they are sick, then it often means that they are sick as well. While many of the diseases that armadillos carry- such as leprosy- seem as if they are a human-exclusive disease, they can also be just as deadly to the animal as they are to humans. If an armadillo approaches you, especially in an urban area, and looks sickly, or as if it has lost a good deal of weight recently, keep away, as this symptom is usually indicative of any of many diseases, including leprosy, salmonella, or a tapeworm.

In the wild, armadillos are creatures of the night: often they will sleep for up to sixteen hours, spending the other four in the dead of night either foraging or eating grubs and worms. When armadillos become infected with a disease, though, they will often come out at other times- most times during the daytime hours. While this might seem normal to many people, it is often a sure-fire sign that the animal is not in the best health, and you should stay away.

The best plan when dealing with a potentially sick armadillo is to err on the side of caution to avoid becoming sick yourself. When human catches the disease, it often is not the armadillo that is transmitting it through a bite or scratch; oftentimes, the animals transmit these diseases either through unprotected contact, or through patients eating the animal's meat. Armadillo meat, when not prepared properly, can still carry the same sicknesses that the live animal once did, so always ensure that proper food safety protocol is followed when preparing to eat armadillo meat. If you find an armadillo on your property, as well, be sure to never touch it without the proper protective gloves, and contact your local Professional Wildlife Removal office.
