Oklahoma is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Tulsa wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Tulsa animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

County Animal ServicesDOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Tulsa County Animal Control for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Tulsa County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that helps with dog and cat issues only.

Tulsa Wildlife Tip:
How to kill a rat at home -Unfortunately, killing rats is the most reasonable method of control. You are not the only one who wants to kill a rat at home. Many people suffer from this same problem, and some of those individuals have been battling nuisance rodents for years. They key to being rat-free is not in how many traps you set or in what bait you use. To kill a rat you need to understand how the rat lives and operates within the home. The first step for rodent removal is always to button down your home. Rats should not be able to get inside through any hole. Even though it goes against your instincts to seal animals into the building, this will make your trapping efforts more successful. The next thing you need to know is that traps are only effective if you know where to put them. Rats use the same routes in a home daily. It is not normal for them to branch out and explore untested territory. Look for areas where rat traffic is indicated. You want to set your traps in areas where there are droppings or urine marks. Do not clean the locations first. Set the traps; catch the rats; then do the cleanup.

Wildlife Safety and prevention

Prevention

Things you can do to reduce your chances of wildlife problems include:

Tree Trimming
Trim or remove trees so that they are 12-20' from your house and outbuildings
Trim and remove trees with a budget in mind. Trees grow up to 3' a year!
Trim vines, bushes and trees 12-20' from all fences
Only allow wildlife resistant fences to touch house (do not provide them a ladder. Wrought iron spiked fences with decorative finials can be made unattractive to wildlife).

Home repairs
A majority of the calls we get are due to roofing problems
If you need a reputable roofer, we can point you in the right direction
If possible, a metal roof is always best
Replace damaged and rotted siding and trim
Have us install a cap on your chimney and covers on your house vents
Block access to the underside of buildings, porches and decks

General Home Prevention
Tightly cover all garbage cans
Do not feed your pets outdoors
Do not feed the birds- especially humming birds!
Do not feed the squirrels
Cut and remove thick underbrush
Eliminate brush and garbage piles
Mow your lawn frequently. Encourage neighbors to do the same

If you are sprayed by a skunk
The following is suggested if you, your pets, or property is sprayed.
The below mixture is an irritant to some animals & humans.
This may kill your plants & grass.
This may bleach your pet's fur, and clothing.
Do not combine ingredients ahead of time, as this is not a stable product.

Combine the following, and apply to your pet, yourself, your driveway...your skunk scent will be gone:

"Skunk Juice"
1 quart of regular strength hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup of baking soda
2 tablespoons of and liquid dish soap, except for Dawn brand

We assume no responsibility for your usage of this mixture. It may bleach, as peroxide does, but it works better than products that you can pay a lot of money for. Forget about tomato juice. The acid in tomatoes does not break down the acid in skunk spray like these combined ingredients.

When we come to your home, we look at the "big picture", and we will address our concerns about possible future wildlife conflicts, and recommend adjustments - most adjustments, such as above, do not make The Skunk Whisperer a single dime... but we benefit because we walk away with a sense of pride, knowing that you were taken care of in a professional manner, by a wildlife professional... word of mouth makes up a large portion of our business.

We remove and prevent troublesome wildlife. When needed, we will make needed preventative repairs - and if we cannot do them ourselves, we manage local, reputable construction contractors to make adjustments to prevent wildlife re-entry and repair any damages. Wildlife problems are overwhelming. At your time of need, we step in and orchestrate necessary procedures such as wildlife removal, tree trimming, drywall, carpet, electrical, roofing, gutters, etc.

Safety

This section is not to scare, but to inform.

If you are in contact with a zoonotic disease, or a suspect/unknown animal, consequences may be deadly.

"The importance and recognition of wildlife as a reservoir of zoonoses are increasing" Center for Disease Control Authors: Anne-Mette Kirkemo, Tove Merete Husby, Hilde Kruse. Used with permission.

Treat all wildlife as though it is infected.
Never touch or approach wildlife.
Treat all snakes as if they are venomous!
If you are bit or scratched by wildlife, keep the animal. Do not injure the head.
Contact us or your local health department when you are bitten. Said animal must be checked for diseases!
Never touch wildlife - bodies, nests, or feces.
Should you make contact with any of the above, wash yourself with soap and water.
Many pictures and videos on our website show us touching wildlife. We are trained professionals, and we can get hurt, too!
Keep your pet's vaccination up to date. If an animal enters your home, your pets usually approach it before you do!
Do not feed the birds or wildlife in general. You are inviting more wildlife than you think! Never feed hummingbirds! The sweet smell of the nectar attracts raccoons, skunks & opossum! Norway rats cannot live in a residential area without an easy, free food source. I repeat, feeding birds, and wildlife in general attracts much more wildlife than you can possibly comprehend. If we had no scruples, we would mail a free bird feeder to everybody in the U.S. with our logo & phone number printed on it. If you or your neighbors feed wildlife, we guarantee that you will eventually have wildlife conflicts.
Never touch a bird or any other animals that have fallen from a nest. They have a better chance of survival right where they currently are, in most cases.
Install one or more bat houses. 1/2 of 1percent of bats carry rabies. Mosquitoes carry many diseases. Allow nature, (the bats) to make your big back yard more enjoyable- bats eat m-a-s-s-i-v-e numbers of Mosquitoes!
Do not keep any wildlife as a pet! Exotic & native wildlife species do NOT make good pets.
From the squirrels and baby raccoons in your attic, to the bats in your belfry; from the moles and gophers in your front lawn, to the removal of that skunk in your trunk, and the armadillo or opossum in your backyard.

Pest Regulation - House rat and mouse exterminating season begins

(Tulsa County) We're a month into house rat and mouse animal removal trap exterminating season. And already people all over our area may be grabbing their camo pants, neon hats, and animal removal traps. It's a livelihood that some people do not ever understand... And others can't get enough of. The largest pest regulation company in Tulsa may have been interviewed, but shared nothing.

Jeffrey The Norwegian Rat and mouse professional, a exterminator says, "Oh it's great. I love exterminating. I'd rather regulation than do anything else." House rat and mouse season will run until January 2nd. Between now and then Vermin exterminators may be allowed to capture just 2 house rat and mouse per day. That can be a combination of a female rodent and a male coon, 2 male coons, 2 doe, it makes no difference. But Vermin exterminators can't take shots during darkness. That's 20 minutes before sunrise or 20 minutes after sunset. This may be a departure from the normal no-pest policy of the area..

A safety precaution for the livelihoodsfellow themselves, each exterminator must wear a hat that can be witnessed 260 degrees around them. And wildlife officers have an answer for people who believe exterminating house rat and mouse may be wrong. They say exterminating the animals may be an important part in the circle of life. And we risk overnumbers if some aren't lethally trapped every year. No members of the Tulsa Pest Society could be found to issue a statement.

Pest man have advised my wife that, in case of disaster of some sort at our home, one thing that pest man will try to save may be an album containing photos taken over forty years in the outdoors. There may be images - and memories - in that book that pest man think might be worth risking my life for. A lot of folks feel that way about certain things. Some of the most special mementoes that a lot of hunters have may be preserved rodent trophies of game taken by themselves or someone they may be close to. Continued next month ...Tulsa pest control.
