Pennsylvania is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Springfield wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Springfield animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

County Animal ServicesDOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Delaware County Animal Control for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Delaware County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that helps with dog and cat issues only.

Springfield Wildlife Tip:
Do flying squirrels chew on wood or electrical wires? Why, and what are the risks?

Flying squirrels, like many of their cousins, do chew on pretty anything they can sink their teeth into. This includes things such as electrical wiring, the wood of your house, and even insulation. This can lead to many problems, not just the obvious ones as well.

But why?

There are a few reasons why flying squirrels decide to nibble on your cables, but most of the reasons have one thing in common--teeth. Due to their teeth constantly growing, the need to find a way to keep them down, and this means chewing on something hard (such as wood). Other reasons include the fact that they want to sharpen and strengthen their teeth, so they're more effective when hunting. The other reason they chew in things is so they are able to build a nest, and the wood is a useful material for them.

Problems of them chewing

Apart from the obvious problem of you having to repair and replace the damaged items, and if they have attacked your insulation you may end up spending that little more on your energy bills, there are other serious issues that the gnawing can cause, including the risk of fire. If the flying squirrels have bitten through the protective casing of electrical wires there is a chance a live wire may touch a flammable object (such as the wood and the insulation material which they have used for a nest).

Other problems that chewing through wires can cause is blackouts, and subsequent rewiring, and if some appliances are short circuited they can break entirely.

Another point to make is the fact that the flying squirrels will urinate in your house. If this comes into contact with a live wire then the chances of short circuiting increases greatly, as well as the problem of the urging heating up and smelling even worse than before. Smells can be another problem if the squirrel gets electrocuted and begins to decompose in your attic.
