Utah is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Cedar City wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Cedar City animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

County Animal ServicesDOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Iron County Animal Control for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Iron County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that helps with dog and cat issues only.

Cedar City Wildlife Tip:
CORAL SNAKE

There are many types of Coral snakes, but the species native to North America is most known for its colorful pattern of red, yellow and black bands going all the way around its body. They are relatively small in size, ranging from 15 inches to 5 feet and are their venom is quite deadly. They have very thin bodies and bulbous heads and rounded noses, its tail looks very similar to its head and it can be hard to tell one from the other. They sometimes fool their attackers by coiling their heads in their bodies and raising their tails instead.

Their venom is considered the second most deadly in the world, after the Black Mamba snake, but because their method of delivering the venom is not as efficient as other venomous snakes because its fangs are fixed and not retractable, the Coral is not considered to be as deadly as it could potentially be. Their venom is neurotoxic, meaning it attacks the nervous system of its prey, paralyzing and killing it within minutes.

It is a generally shy snake that prefers to spend its days buried under leaves and hiding underneath rocks of a tropical forest, and will only emerge during mating season or during heavy rainfall. If threatened a Coral snake will first try to ward off its enemies with a popping sound made by expelling air from its cloaca. If this doesn't work, it won't hesitate to attack and administer its deadly venom.

Coral snakes like to live in forested or jungle areas where they can easily hide under the vegetation. They can also be found in sandhills and scrubby areas like Arizona and New Mexico. They like to keep hidden away in dens, under rocks or buried underneath leaves and vegetation, they are mainly nocturnal creatures and like to keep hidden away from prying eyes, preferring to flee rather that attack if danger is near.

Coral snakes mainly eat lizards, other smooth scaled reptiles, frogs and occasionally other snakes. Because it cannot retract its fangs into its mouth, they are very weak and not ideal for hunting bigger animals. Because their fangs are so small, the amount of venom they deliver in a single bite isn't very much and they often use a "chewing" motion in an attempt to inject more venom.

A bite to a human from a Coral snake isn't likely to be deadly due to the small amount of venom, but is still highly toxic and painful. If left untreated it could lead to cardiac arrest, though a death due to Coral snake bite has not been reported in the United States since the 1960's.

Coral snakes are the only vipers in the United States who do not give delivery to live childish however rather put down eggs. All these eggs are must be laid by the female during the summer and they hatch in the fall. The babies are around 7 inches long, very brightly colored and very venomous.
