Virginia is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Yorktown wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Yorktown animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Yorktown Wildlife Tip:
Flying squirrels in soffit or eaves - A flying squirrel found only in a soffit or eaves is a very unusual scenario. Most of the time, if it's invaded the soffit or eaves it's also invaded the attic. For the rare occurrence that leads you to having to remove a flying squirrel from your soffit or eaves, your best bet is going to be to try to exclude them with a one way door. To do this, you'll have to find them by doing some detective work in the later hours of the day. Because a flying squirrel is predominantly nocturnal, you'll hear most of the noises sometime around dusk. Listen for the distinct chitter of the babies as they call out for food. Listen for scurrying in the walls, ceiling, attic, or eaves. This call will give you a good idea of where the colony of rodents is located. You can also tell the exact location by feeling around for heat. Once you've located them, and more importantly, located the entry exit hole, you'll have to mount a one-way exclusion door over the hole. This will allow the whole colony to crawl and glide out, but not get back in again. This only works if all other entry holes are closed shut.

Yorktown, VA Animal Control News Clip:
How to get rid of pigeons: It is an undeniable fact that pigeons have taken very important roles in human lives. In times of wars, pigeons would be used in sending messages. The birds have also been used in locating shipwrecked victims. Currently, these birds are used in many laboratories to help in medical and health studies. Quite a handful of advantages you might say. However, these birds can be quite a big nuisance especially having in mind that they go in flocks and not sole. Studies have shown that the pigeons living in town are a health hazard in that they carry more diseases and pests than rats. In addition, they are known to nest on almost any structure they come across and leave behind very unsanitary droppings. What makes matters worse is that they are relatively unafraid of people.

There are numerous ways in which you can legally get rid of the pigeons and even eliminate the likelihood of having them back. One of the most used ways is the use of repellants to keep them away. Mothballs may b placed in the eaves and balcony since the birds are known to dislike the smell in which case they will go away. You can also apply glue on the balcony and roof to trap the birds. In most cases, the products do not have any active ingredient. Sticky pads may also be applied in which case the birds are unable to walk or stand on them. However, they come with a drawback in that the pigeons may be permanently stuck on the pad thereby resulting in their death. On the same note, you could use repellant glue which incorporates active ingredients. These products would make the birds need to get out of the place immediately.

In the use of repellants, you could go high-tech and use ultrasonic repellant devices. These devices make use of noise that would not be audible to people in an effort to drive them away. You can buy them at the hardware store in your locality. They are very effective in getting rid of pigeons. Installing sprinklers in your homestead would also be effective in keeping the pigeons away. Pigeons do not like water and therefore the installation of sprinklers or other devices that can shoot water to the pigeons would deter them from staying in your property. This may however come as a relatively expensive method of controlling the birds but would be effective.

In addition, you should consider making your backyard uninhabitable. If you come across any nests, knock them down and ensure than none of their remnants are left behind in order to ensure that the pigeons do not rebuild them. Look into areas where the birds would be more likely to perch and attach spikes in order to make them less impressive for landing. These spike strips may be found in numerous the local hardware stores or even online stores.

Scarecrows have also been very effective in keeping many birds from crops and pigeons are not an exception. Some of the types of scarecrows that you could use to deter the birds include people, cats, snakes and owls. To use this method effectively, it would be important that you make the scarecrows look as live-like as you possibly can. Ensure that you move them once in a while so that the -pigeons do not device ways of going round them. Better still, you could make use of scarecrows that responsively or randomly make movements as they would be likely to be more effective. Windsocks that appear like animals would also work well as far as the area has sufficient wind to give the impression that they are alive.
