You have a few options when it comes to getting rid of moles, but the most commonly used one is with traps. Before you do anything, you should make sure that you have read up on and understand the legalities on mole trapping and removal before you start. This will have a big impact on how you approach the problem. In certain states, you aren't allowed to use certain traps. You might not even be allowed to kill the animal. If you were to do those things and then get caught, you would face criminal proceedings.
Trapping comes in two forms — live cage trapping, with the intentions of releasing the creature somewhere else later on, or kill trapping. The name gives the game away. The first trap type — live cage traps — are generally not a great option. Relocating an animal rarely works out quite as positively as you might have hoped, with many creatures dying within a few hours or days of being released into their new habitat.
Kill traps or even dawn soap will definitely sort the problem out when they are used properly. Again, you will need to do your research, not just as far as legalities are concerned, but also when looking at technique. These traps, kill or live, will need to be placed in just the right spot so that they effectively do their job. If you put a trap into a tunnel system that is no longer being used, it will just sit there for a while until you decide to move it. Either that or it’ll capture an animal that you didn't want to capture. And then there are a whole bunch of other legalities to think about too, because if you trap an animal that is a known vector of the rabies virus, you can’t just release it back into the wild. Underground fencing systems can really work to help keep these animals out of your land, but they won't work if the critter has already gotten in. You also can't seal up your land, so to speak, without proof that the animal and any potential babies it was tagging along have been safely removed. This is why it's one of those jobs best left to the people who know what they're doing, and have the right tools for the job.
