Much of the architecture in the area is Spanish in style, in keeping with the Spanish heritage of the city: white buildings with tile roofs are a common sight. The city has enacted strict ordinances to prevent erosion of this image. For example, there are no billboards anywhere in Santa Maria, and none at all on the main freeway leading out of town for almost twenty miles; in addition there is a strict sign ordinance for businesses, with no excessively large lettering allowed. However, there is no strict rule keeping wild critters and pests away, so call us if you need help. We also service the towns of Las Cruces, Carpinteria, Guadalupe, Sisquoc and also animal control in Santa Ynez, Buellton, Los Olivos and pest control in Los Alamos, Santa Barbara, Goleta and wild animal services in Garey, Solvang, Montecito and wildlife management in Orcutt, Summerland, Lompoc.

Santa Maria, CA Animal News Clip:
Icky earwig infestation in Santa Maria SANTA MARIA - It's an infestation of the insect-kind; thousands of earwigs have invaded Santa Barbara County this year. They are also called pincher bugs because of the pair of graspers they have on their tails. Whatever you call them, they are bugging a lot of local folks out. They're creepy, but Curly Neal has found a way to deal with them. “I just step on them and crunch them,” Neal said. “They say they bite, but I've never been bitten or pinched by one,” Neal said. Although they are not a major threat, they have become a nuisance. They are known as earwigs or pincher bugs but most people call them plain gross. Entomologist David The Lampoc and Oxnard resident said, “Pincher bug is just an old European myth that they can bore into your ear and get into your brain that way, and that's just completely unfounded.” And although, it's reassuring that they don't bore into your brain, but what about those formidable forceps. “Yeah, he just can't get it. Yeah. If I put my little pinky in there he can't quite grab,” The Lampoc and Oxnard resident said. While The Lampoc and Oxnard resident reassures people that they don’t pinch, few people are willing to put it to the test. Anthony Mews with DWI Pest Control says the pest control business is booming. “Since it rained last week, the rain actually drove them out. We're getting 10 to 20 calls per day” Mews said. This sudden bloom of bugs is due to perfect environmental conditions. Recent rain and cool temperatures means earwigs are just about everywhere in Kern County, and some have even invaded homes. Santa Barbara pest control is an important part of the local economy, but only a few California companies deal with wild animals. But there are some ways you can get rid of them. Get a can of tuna remove all of the tuna, leaving behind the fish. Then set the can down in a leafy area where the earwigs are likely to hangout. They'll go in there for a meal, but they'll never check out. They're going to be going away soon. The males will pretty much die soon. And the females will hibernate during the winter. Most local owners of pest control companies in Santa Maria, California weren’t sure what to make of all this.
