A permanent corn chewing pest fly infestation could cost California $1.3 billion to $1.8 billion, officials said, counting lost fruit and related expenses.The last corn chewing pest fly outbreak in Santa Rosa occurred in 1992, when 128 chewer flies surfaced in one square mile near Capitol Expressway. The Santa Rosa County Pest Control board could not be reached for comment.
