Branford, CT Animal News Clip:
Owner accused of Connecticut dogfighting

The 10-month-old pit bull that died was her boyfriend’s pet and not a rescued dog, she said. She said it was attacked by another dog at the sanctuary, and she did not believe its injuries to be severe. For more information, call the animal services of Branford, Connecticut.

When they brought the dog to a veterinarian five days later, he performed surgery and then told her in the middle of the operation the dog should be euthanized, she said. “We didn’t cause the dog’s death. The veterinarian, he felt like he couldn’t do the dog’s surgery,” she said. New Haven County animal control says it will continue to help with domestic animal issues, but not with Connecticut wildlife problems.

She declined to discuss the specific allegations of the Sheriff’s Office, saying she was unable to reach her attorney. But she said the charges are the result of the dispute with the Sheriff’s Office. “We’ve got a long, long history of dog rescue and animal shelter,” she said. “My reputation speaks for itself, and I think we will prevail.” Animal and carcass removal services in New Haven County is dedicated to helping Connecticut and Branford.

Officials at the New Haven County Regional Animal Shelter were not aware of any previous problem with The dog and cat control man’s dogs. The dog and cat control man is free on $50,000 bail. She could face up to 3½ years in prison and $100,000 in fines if convicted in both cases. New Haven County animal services in New Haven, Connecticut, declined to comment on the matter.
