New London, CT Animal News Clip:
Pests: Unique Methods for Rat Control in Connecticut Duluth City Councilors approved the hunt ordinance in May and designated the Arrowhead Bowhunters Alliance, a private group, to conduct the hunt. The hunt is patterned after several metro bowhunts in the Twin Cities and Superior. The New London County Pest Control board could not be reached for comment. Prospective Duluth bowhunters spent the summer meeting prerequisites. They had to pay a $20 registration fee, attend an eight-hour bowhunter education class, pass a shooting proficiency test and attend a mandatory orientation session. Most local owners of pest control companies in New London, Connecticut weren’t sure what to make of all this. The Ramsey County move is sure to bring controversy and concern. The mouse and rat trapper said the kill sites were chosen with a focus on safety, and The mouse and rat exterminator described his safety record as "impeccable." New London pest control is an important part of the local economy, but only a few Connecticut companies deal with wild animals. The mouse and rat exterminator runs the Connecticut-based nonprofit White Buffalo, which has done hunts everywhere from Eden Prairie in the metro area to New Jersey, sometimes meeting local protests. He also has done conservation work in such far-flung locations as Bhutan and Mongolia. This job will be simple, The mouse and rat exterminator said. There are many types of insects and animals in New London, and other Connecticut cities, but not all of them are pests after all.
