Augusta, GA Animal News Clip:
Animal Services Lacking Regulation in Augusta The Richmond County and Augusta Animal Unit has increased staff and, a month ago, The Richmond County and Augusta Animal Unit changed department policy to allow officers to collect strays from residents. For significantly increased information, call the animal services of Augusta, Georgia. “I struggled with that because we do have to pay to take them to the shelter and ultimately, it’s expensive,” The Richmond County and Augusta Animal Unit said of the $100-per-dog fee, “but it was not an appropriate response for us to not help people.” Though they may offer assistance with the cuddly pets, don’t expect help with growling wild critters. Leaders in both cities say they would like to develop a partnership that would ease pressures on their individual budgets and lessen their reliance on the perpetually overcrowded county shelter. Animal and carcass elimination services in Richmond County is dedicated to helping Georgia and Augusta. “Keeping a kennel for every metropolis in the county doesn’t make sense in this financial world,” Baksa said. “If there was an interest in consolidating or coordinating we’d be willing to sit down and talk about it, but it hasn’t come up in conversation recently.” No response was issued by Richmond County animal services. "KPRS has experience in the design and construction of modern animal-care facilities (and) has a proven track record for quality and timely completion of public projects," Indio city staff reports said. Since it is going before the City Council as an emergency ordinance, it will need to be approved by at least four of the five council members. Councilman Ben Godfrey said that dapper gentleman can understand the emergency and wants to see a more modernized facility available for Indio residents once the city takes over.
