Louisiana is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Gretna wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Gretna animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

About Opossums: Appearance, Biology, Life Cycle, Habitat, Diet, Behavior
The scientific name for opossums is "Didelphimorphia," and by the first appearance, they look somewhat like largely sized rats. Most people call them possums instead of opossums. Note that although these creatures look like rats, they are actually very different from rats. There are so many interesting things to know about possums that are discussed below in this article.
Biology
Opossums are known for their opposable digits that help them to ensure better grip when they are climbing. Nature has blessed these creatures with prehensile tails that assists them in making right balance while running or climbing up on narrow surfaces. Possums are marsupial animals; it means the mother possums carry pouches on their belly where babies can stay safely. Female possums can give birth to babies at least three times a year, and the duration ranges between the month of January and July. They can have 6 to 9 babies at once and the gestation period generally stays for 12 to 14 days only. As soon as the babies take birth, they go to mother's pouch where they get all food arrangements from mother and grow safely until they become able to live independently. This duration can vary between 75 to 120 days. Possums are known for their high immunity power that makes them resistant to dangerous snake venom as well. Also, these creatures do not carry rabies as they are highly resistant to such type of viruses. Their lifespan can vary from 2 to 4 years.
Habitat
Most species of possums are found in America, especially in the Northern region. These creatures often live nomadic lives and live alone. They can live on trees, may create nests in the tree trunks, can burrow dugs created by other animals, or live comfortably in the attic. They are skilled climbers and often prefer to live in warm and dry places.
Feeding habits and diet
Possums are omnivorous creatures; however, the amounts of meat that these large rat-like animals eat generally depend upon the type of species and area where they live. Possums are better known as foraging animals, and they often prefer to feed on animals like lizards, snakes, snails, and frogs, etc. They can also target nuts, berries, and fruits in your garden. When they become too hungry and find nothing to eat around; they can even search for treats in your trash cans.
Behaviors
Opossums get threatened with ease, and when they feel fear, they often try to belch, defecate, urinate or simply run away from the danger zone. However, in case if anything out of this is not possible in any critical situation, these animals will simply play dead. It means, they will simply drop down and freeze into one position so that predators assume them dead. The surprising fact is that opossums can do this for almost 6 hours. Note that possums are very lazy animals and they do not prefer to do much work to build nests; rather they will simply take over the burrows made by other animals.
