Maryland is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Randallstown wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Randallstown animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Baltimore County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. Randallstown Wildlife Tip:
Is a groundhog that is active during the daytime rabid?

Groundhogs are not nocturnal creatures. This means that they are not active at night. It is this not strange to see a groundhog during the day. It certainly doesn't mean that it is rabid. It is probably just out looking for food. If you think that it might be rabid, you will need to monitor it until someone can come and remove it.

Normal behavior for a groundhog

Groundhogs are often found foraging for food or socializing during the day. They are often seen standing on their back legs watching out for predators. If they do sense danger they will make a whistling sound to warn the other groundhogs in the vicinity. They are not known to socialize with humans. They are generally aggressive and although they can be trained to be more affectionate this is not the case with wild groundhogs.

Rabies and groundhogs

Healthy groundhogs do not carry the rabies virus. If you are bitten by a healthy groundhog you will not be infected with the disease. It is, however, advisable to get a rabies shot whenever you are bitten by an animal. Groundhogs will only attack if they feel threatened. If a groundhog attacks you out of nowhere they might be infected with rabies.

Rabies is the most common disease carried by groundhogs. If the groundhog is showing signs, such as foaming at the mouth, paralysis or aggression it is better to stay away.

Symptoms of rabies

There are two types of rabies. The first type makes the carrier act aggressively. This is the one that we most often associate with rabies. The second type is paralytic rabies. This type is more severe and takes longer to set in.

Symptoms

1. Fever
2. Inflammation in the area of the bite
3. Muscle weakness
4. Anxiety
5. Confusion
6. Aggression
7. Paralysis
8. Fear of water
9. Hallucination

What to do if you suspect an infected groundhog

If you see a groundhog that might be infected with rabies you can phone animal control. They should send someone who will catch and destroy the infected animal before the disease can spread. Do not attempt to apprehend the infected animal by yourself. If animal control is unable to help you they will put you in contact with someone who will be able to.
