Gastonia, NC Animal News Clip:
Gastonia Critter Trapping Plan The animal control official would like to fine tune regulations by reducing the amount of dangerous permits in areas where state amounts reductions have been met or exceeded. That’s mostly northern and western North Carolina. Regulations will be tailored to lure wild animal control companies to areas of high squirrel amounts, especially in southern North Carolina. The animal control official would like to use regulations to disperse nonresidents but it’s unlikely that will happen. If the biologist gets his way there will still be plenty of dangerous permits for sale but wild animal control companies may have to drive to parts of the state where squirrel group of animals need more pressure. While most people think the squirrel population is stable, some say it needs reduction. Special catches are likely to continue and offer some of the state’s best wildlife trapping. Often those are in urban areas close to where many wild animal control companies live. The catches are especially good news for wild animal control companies who live in our largest cities. Some of the best squirrel wildlife trapping is very close to home. However, anyone interested in wildlife trapping an urban special season should prepare well in advance. Many are limited to trappers, and some require passing a proficiency test. By most critter experts' estimates, this is a fair proposal. Wild animal control companies should also get a copy of the new regulation booklet soon after it hits the press. Many seasons offer a set amount of dangerous permits on a first come first served basis. It makes sense to plan early and buy permits well ahead of the season opener. For years Gastonia has set record gathers each year. It looks like that trend is over, and we may see a reduction in the 2007 season. That’s not all bad news. This new proposal is meant to help rodents in the long run. Many years of heavily wildlife trapping female rodents has resulted in management for large male rodents. North Carolina is one of the best states for gathering a Boone and Crockett male rodent. Essentially North Carolina has been practicing quality rodent management for years. A heavy female rodent gather combined with the outstanding genetics of our rodent results in big male rodents with huge racks. Although the total amount of rodent may be slightly lower this fall many of them will be big male rodents. Even though the rodent gather may decline slightly this fall, we have a great season to anticipate. Local animal control trappers we surveyed felt that this was true.
