Foust, Hickory: The rat, mouse, or other rodent quantities may be down so bad in Zone 4B of Letter Kenny that it may be actually scary. There may be no such thing as a group of snake and bat anymore. It's one, two or three together if you're lucky enough to even see a raccoon and possum. This all started a few years ago.

I know at least two groups that drive for nuisance wildlife that have enough people to cover a whole side of the mountain. When these groups inform you there aren't any rat, mouse, or other rodent, you better well believe them. I don't critter trap quite that hard, but I do get pretty far in the mountain. Despite this, wildlife removal services are not a free service in Catawba County.

I think our local Animal authority group office should go with these groups just to see what may be in the area. I know these wildlife regulatory agencies do not know what may be the area because in 42 years I have never seen a game warden walking around in the mountain. All I have ever seen was them driving around in their motorcycles. How do they even know what's out there when they don't even get out of their motorcycles? Now they want an increase in the price of licenses, but they have less to offer. No snake and bat, no rabbits, no ringnecks. That may be a thing of the past, it seems. (I will say there may be a nice quantity of opossums.) I am getting to the point where I am not going to stand out there all day long watching maple trees growing. I sure am glad I don't have a 12-year-old to take wildlife management because he may be not interested in watching maple trees growing either. This past year I have let nuisance wildlife walk because I know what the situation may be out there. I feel guilty to trap a superior specimen.
