Getting Rid of Bats in the Attic -
Bats that will take up residence in your attic are usually little brown bats or larger brown bats. They can be found inside your attic because the location meets all of the necessary criteria for survival. Attics are located high off of the ground so that they are protected from hunters trying to eat them. Attics also have small holes to allow for entry. Bats feel that this also protects them from their predators. Attics are warm and dry, which colonies need to roost.
The proper way to get rid of all of the bats in your attic is through exclusion. You cannot kill a colony of bats, as it is usually illegal. Many people have the desire to simply relocate the bats. However, bats will always migrate back no matter how far away you release them. Installing a one way device will allow the bats to safely fly out of the attic at dusk, but be unable to fly back in. This is the safest and most humane way to rid your attic of bats.
Every home, job and bat colony is different. Attempting to locate where the bats are making their entering may be time consuming and frustrating. Some jobs require the use of a ladder that extends to at least 40 feet. In these cases, it may be a good idea to hire a professional service to have the bats safely removed.
Most of the openings that bats use to get into the house are at the top where the roof meets the home. There are usually gaps that are large enough for the bat to enter, but small enough that they are difficult to notice. Once you have determined how the bats are getting in, you will need to seal up the hole so the bats will not migrate back into your attic later.
Bats are great animals! Unfortunately, the do often choose to roost inside home and buildings, where they can create a big mess. It's a good idea to remove the bats from your belfry or attic, but it's also a great idea to avoid
harming them! Any competent wildlife control expert should have the knowledge and expertise to safely and effectively remove an entire colony of bats from a house without harming or killing a single one. I know that I have a 100%
success rate with bat removal jobs, and I believe the list of companies that I've compiled in my directory is of similar quality. If you want to learn more, please read my How To Get Rid of Bats page.
