Here's an ugly one! The oppossum, or me? |

Customer Opossum Email: David, Please help me. I had a momma cat abandon 4 baby kitties in my garage and now there's a possum in there after them. I've gotten 2 of the babies in
the house, but the other 2 are still out. I need help killing this possum, PLEASE. Do Possums move really fast in trees. I have a row of about 5 fichus trees in my backyard. For the
last month at night, I have noticed all the trees moving and making a bunch of noise. I believe it is a possum but when they are in the yard they are real slow or playing possum. This possum
if it is one is really fast in the trees. What do you think? Lisa
My Answer: I've never heard of opossums killing kittens. That's not what they do at all. Also, they are very slow, so the animal in the trees isn't likely an opossum. Why not keep the kittens somewhere safe, where no
wild animal can get at them? You don't need to kill a possum - you can trap and relocate as an alternative.

The opossum, also commonly called the possum, is actually named the Virginia Opossum (Didelphis virginiana), and it is the only marsupial native to North America. Possums have several unique traits. Most people know that they
sometimes "play possum" which is a form of playing dead, and they also know that opossums can hang from their tails. But possums are unique in many other ways - they have a low body temperature that prevents many viruses and
diseases from affecting them, that tail is prehensile (they can grip things with it) they have opposable thumbs, and they have 50 teeth, the most of any land mammal. They are very opportunistic and good climbers, which causes them to
commonly break into decks, sheds, and attics, where they cause considerable damage, leave a lot of droppings, and they often die and stink in these areas. Thus, opossums
