Sometimes a female cat will have a litter of kittens inside an attic.

In my job as a wildlife control operator, I usually deal with the same 8 types of animals: raccoons, squirrels, rats, opossums, armadillos, snakes, bats, and birds. However, from time to time I get a chance to handle an uncommon species. I really relish these jobs. The above photos are all of animals that I don't usually handle. If you want to learn more, please read my How To Get Rid of Stray Cats page.

Clearing the attic of kittens and their mommy - Babies are adorable and no matter how much I might have written against stray cats, there is no denying how cute their kittens are. As part of their maternal nature, mommy stray cats always want to give birth to and nurse their children in a warm and cozy environment. The idea is not only to save the newborns from the weather but also to make sure that they are not attacked or gobbled up by some other hungry homeless animal like themselves. My experience has taught me that nearly every time there is an animal found in the attic, there will always be a few babies around.

As part of routine work, anytime I am called to remove cats from the attic, I make sure that I look for kittens. Another way to determine whether there are kittens or not is to check whether the cat has been nursing them and the best way to do that is to check its nipples. If they look swollen, there certainly are a few babies around. When I entered this attic, I almost immediately found the momma cat and one look at her told me that there have to be kittens somewhere there too. After a little bit of search, I found them covered in insulation and looking as adorable as ever.

I picked them all up and took them to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) where I knew they would be safe. If you ever encounter such a situation, remember to never seal the hole where the animals enter/exit from before you have safely removed each of them. For one, you would not want these poor creatures dying of starvation. And two, if they end up dying in your attic, you will have to live in a foul smelling house once their bodies start to decompose. And even then, you will end up calling me!

AAAnimal Control is a privately owned wildlife removal and pest control business, located in Orlando Florida. I deal strictly with wild animals including ones that have died inside houses. I am not an extermination company, but a critter removal and control specialist. The above photos are some of the many that I've taken in the field over my years of work. Please email me if you have any questions about the above photographs, or any questions about wildlife problems or Florida wildlife removal issues.
