It's a good spot for a mom to have young

Customer Raccoon Email: I have had coons in the attic and I believe I heard one again today. We trimmed a tree they could climb to then jump on the roof, my question is can they also climb up the side of your house to gain access to the roof ?? The house is brick and stucco, someone told us they do not need the tree to gain access to the roof and that is a huge concern. If cutting down the small tree would solve the problem-it will be cut down tomorrow !!! I just do not want to do that if they still will be able to climb up the house on the brick. The location they are getting in at is not reachable (we have a tile roof and are not suppose to walk on it) so to fix where they bent the metal overhang is almost impossible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Theresa

My Answer: Raccoons are amazing climbers, so they can get onto your roof and into your attic, even if you trim the trees. Once inside an attic, professional wildlife removal is usually the only feasible option.

The raccoon (Procyon lotor), is a common urban animal, and native to North America. Raccoons are easy to recognize, with a black mask and ringed tail, as seen in the above photo. Raccoons tend to weigh between 10-20 pounds as adults, and live an average of 5 years. They are mostly nocturnal, and are omnivores, and will often eat pet food or garbage. They have become very acclimated to living in cities and urban areas. They are very strong, excellent climbers, very intelligent, and they are very skilled with their hands, which causes them to commonly break into homes and attics, where they cause considerable damage, and they also destroy other property, and thus raccoons are considered pest animals by many people, which is why I remove them.
