Birmingham, AL Wildlife News Clip:
Deer hunters unlikely to record kills on Internet A number of Alabama hunters have pleaded with the state through the years to implement a tagging system for deer such as the one Georgia and many other states have. Such a tagging system would give biologists a true picture of how many deer hunters take in the state each year and outline the age and sex of each deer harvested, they argue. Not really knowing how many deer are harvested each year and not knowing the sex and ages of those deer makes effective management a shot in the dark. Some wildlife biologists not affiliated with the state agree with those claims. Professional wildlife control companies in Birmingham, AL could not be reached for comment. The state has opposed such a tagging system from the get-go. State wildlife officials say, first of all, such a program would cost a ton of money because hundreds of check stations would be needed across the state. Also, state employees would have to man the stations all hours of the day seven days a week. No decision has been made regarding other Birmingham wildlife.
