The amount of conflicts between humans and Canada geese is on the rise, and the same can be said for the attacks from these birds on other animals, including domesticated pets. They can be a vicious species, and once they get a bee in their bonnet, are rather difficult to shake off. This is even more so the case during the breeding season, when a pair of parents will have a nest of youngsters to defend. They will defend to the death though, and we’re not joking around when we say you should probably run in the other direction if you see these birds up close and personal. They will attack. Even if you are nowhere near the nest of goslings, they will attack.

They will also attack if you are feeding them and then stop suddenly, but they can still sense that you have food. Just like a toddler, when all else fails, have a temper tantrum and start biting people. It's not an approach just taken by the humble Canada goose either. The raccoon is a prolific offender for that kind of behavior. It might be cute, but it can result in some rather nasty injuries.

Of course, alongside the threat of an actual, physical attack, there is the waste and mess that these birds leave behind. Bird droppings are one of the biggest problems with any nuisance bird problem, and geese droppings are commonly found in pools, parks, ponds, streams, and more. These are not only unsightly, but also very unhygienic. You wouldn’t want your kids to get too close, that's for sure.

The bad news is that you will need to take a combination of approaches to get these birds out and manage to keep them out. They can fly, for a start, and this gives them an immediate advantage over us. You should look at preventing a problem with this bird BEFORE it arises.
