Humanely Removing Pigeons
Pigeons are more commonly located in urban areas. Pigeons have learned to adapt to almost any habitat that is available to them. Not only has the changed their diet from strictly seeds and fruits to human food such as bread and french fries, it has caused them to learn to roost in almost any locations.
Pigeons are able to roost on the eaves of your home, your house’s attic, stairwells, warehouses, lofts, and anything other private or public location they deem desirable. Not only are pigeons annoying, but they can cause unsightly appearances, and costly damages. One of the biggest concerns of pigeons is the uric acid in their droppings. These droppings can corrode concrete, brick and stone, as well as remove paint from cars and buildings. You will need to remove your new guests as soon as possible.
The easiest and most humane way to remove pigeons is by using the services of a professional pest expert. They know how to safely relocate pigeons, as well as carefully and efficiently clean up any droppings that are left behind.
If you are interested in removing the pigeons yourself, all you will need to do is make your environment less pigeon friendly. One of the most popular methods is a plastic spike strip. These strips are durable and flexible. This allows you to easily place them anyway and manipulate them to fit any surface. The spikes can easily be mounted with the use of glue or zip ties.
You can also cause the flat surfaces to be uncomfortable for pigeons to land with the use of chemicals. There are many pigeon repellents that leave a sticky residue on the surface. This makes the pigeon uncomfortable and will search for somewhere else to perch and roost. Ultrasonic devices and scarecrows are also efficient methods for handling for pigeon situation.
The most commonly dealt with bird problem in the US is that of pigeons roosting on buildings. Feral pigeons tend to live in urban areas, and they prefer to roost on and in buildings, where they leave nesting material, feathers, parasites, and
worst of all, their unsanitary and corrosive droppings. The only way to
permanently solve such problems is to install bird exclusion materials, such as bird spikes or netting. Bird trapping is also an option, but it's usually a poor and temporary
fix. In addition to pigeons, other birds can cause problems in certain other situations: woodpeckers damaging houses, sparrows stuck inside retail spaces, Chimney Swifts nesting inside chimneys, etc.
