Pigeon Trapping

Pigeons can be annoying and cause a lot of damage to their roosting location. One of the most humane ways to remove them from your property is by trapping them. You are able to do so with preassembled traps from your local home improvement stores.

One of the most highly recommended traps for pigeons is a repeating pigeon trap. This allows you to catch multiple pigeons in one trap. You are easily able to bait traps with seeds, corn, popcorn and bread. You are also able to use french fries or other pieces of human food to entice the pigeons.

Pigeon traps are able to be put on any flat surface where you find pigeons landing, feeding or roosting. They will easily enter the pigeon trap, when they find the bait. Many of your pigeons will usually be captured within a few days of setting the trap. You are also able to leave a few pigeons in the trap as a way to lure other pigeons. Make sure that you treat your current pigeons in the trap humanely. Provide them with food and a bowl of water.

If the trap is located in direct sunlight, make sure you place something to cover the trap to provide them with shade. Most pigeon traps are designed to allow you to open the trap to place their food and water into it, without allowing any of them to escape in the process. Many experts recommend the ProSeries GalvaPerm Pigeon Trap. This trap has been voted as one of the best traps available.

This trap has eight one way entry doors for the pigeons. It consists of a top door that prevents the pigeons from escaping, and two one way doors on each of the trap’s four sides. This trap can safely hold up to 20 pigeons.

The most commonly dealt with bird problem in the US is that of pigeons roosting on buildings. Feral pigeons tend to live in urban areas, and they prefer to roost on and in buildings, where they leave nesting material, feathers, parasites, and worst of all, their unsanitary and corrosive droppings. The only way to permanently solve such problems is to install bird exclusion materials, such as bird spikes or netting. Bird trapping is also an option, but it's usually a poor and temporary fix. In addition to pigeons, other birds can cause problems in certain other situations: woodpeckers damaging houses, sparrows stuck inside retail spaces, Chimney Swifts nesting inside chimneys, etc. If you want to learn more, please read my How To Get Rid of Birds page.
