In my job as a wildlife control operator, I usually deal with the same 8 types of animals: raccoons, squirrels, rats, opossums, armadillos, snakes, bats, and birds. However, from time to time I get a chance to handle an uncommon species. I really relish these jobs. The above photos are all of animals that I don't usually handle. Catch moles if you can - Like I described in my previous post, catching a mole is no piece of cake, and sometimes it may take up to several days before you are successful. Throughout these years, I have been called to numerous houses to get rid of moles and I found that there are only two effective ways to catch moles. One method is that you run after it and catch it with your hands, while the other requires you to set up mole traps. As I explained in my last blog, setting up mole traps is not easy especially since moles live beneath the earth’s surface.

Over time, I gradually learned how to effectively use a mole trap to capture a mole, even though the traps available are not the easiest piece of equipment to work around with. Moreover, you need to know the right place to set up the trap. Moles are creative about the tunnels they dig. There are some, called the winder feeder tunnels, which moles will use only once. Another type of mole tunnels, called the straighter travel tunnels, which they are likely to use multiple times. This is where you need to set up the mole trap since there is greater likelihood of the moles using the same passage again. To distinguish between the two types of tunnel, the best way is to push back the tunnels you see and observe which of them gets dug up again. The one being reused by the mole is your point of attack.

Setting up the trap is something only a professional like me can do for you because it needs to be at the right depth and place. Anytime you notice a mole in your garden, the best thing to do is to call a professional mole removal expert. Also, make sure that your kids and pets are at a safe distance from the trap. Over and out!
