The mother is protective if its young

Customer Raccoon Email: Dear Aanimalcontrol, I'm an animal lover and I was wondering if you have any spare baby raccoons that need a nice home? Only of course if the mother is dead would I want to separate the two, let me know. I would love a baby rocky raccoon. Let me know, or possibly where I could rescue one? Thank you for your website. I have a question. I believe you are probably right that repellants don’t work. What if they are in an inaccessible place and they young? I need to get the mother to carry them out. If I trap her, I am still stuck with the young in the attic. I have racoons in my attic - I know because the soffitt is hanging on the left side of my house and there is a hole in the roof in the middle back of the house - please this has to be taken care of I need help ---- I have a trapper here for 3 days will not go up in the attic but placed the trap over the hole and so far nothing ----what do I do? Thanks. Sincerely, Phoebe

My Answer: I don't have any spare baby raccoons that need a nice home - I'm not allowed to give animals to people as pets, and raccoons don't make good pets anyway! They're wild animals.

The raccoon (Procyon lotor), is a common urban animal, and native to North America. Raccoons are easy to recognize, with a black mask and ringed tail, as seen in the above photo. Raccoons tend to weigh between 10-20 pounds as adults, and live an average of 5 years. They are mostly nocturnal, and are omnivores, and will often eat pet food or garbage. They have become very acclimated to living in cities and urban areas. They are very strong, excellent climbers, very intelligent, and they are very skilled with their hands, which causes them to commonly break into homes and attics, where they cause considerable damage, and they also destroy other property, and thus raccoons are considered pest animals by many people, which is why I remove them.
