Removing a Colony of Bats - Bats that are commonly found in attics are little brown bats and big brown bats. These bats choose to live in attics because they need places that are high off of the ground, warm, dry and have access points that are small. This makes the bats feel protected from predators.

Bats choose these locations to roost and have their babies. When you discover there are bats in the attic, you will need to try to get them out as soon as possible. The longer bats remain in your attic, the harder it will be to get rid of them and any trace they have left behind. A bat can produce several times its weight in waste. These droppings can create odor issues, health threats, and cause contamination to your home’s heating and air conditioning system.

The easiest way to remove a colony of bats is to hire the services of a professional. They understand how important it is to safely remove the bats, as well as find out how they have gotten in, in the first place. If you choose to remove the bats yourself, it is important to keep in mind that bats are protected species in most areas and it is illegal to harm them. Bats may be frightful, but they are incredibly beneficial to the ecosystem. They are able to consumer more than 3,000 insects each night. These insects can include flies, moths and mosquitoes.

When you find out how your bats are getting into your home, you will need to install a one way device. This will let the bats fly out, but not in. You can purchase a one way device or a simple screen from your local home improvement store. The screen can be easily attached to the inside of the opening to create a one way flap.
