Capturing a Bat -
Having a bat or two in your attic may seem more like an annoyance than a serious issue. A colony of bats can cause major concerns and problems. Large colonies of bats will primarily contain female bats that will often reproduce. This can cause a colony to grow incredibly large, very quickly. Not only will the bats create a lot of noise, they will release droppings that can be toxic to humans.
When someone sees a bat in the attic or one that has escaped into their living space they are usually unsure of how to proceed. Many people believe that a bat will fly into their hair or bite them. This is not the case. Most of the time bats are scared as they feel that they are trapped. They want to get out of your house just as much as you want them too. The easiest way to get the bat out is to open a door or window. A bat will usually sense that there is a way to exit the house and simply fly away. This is the best method as it allows the bat to escape freely without being harmed.
Another way to safely remove a bat is to wait for the bat to land and cover it with a light blanket. Bats are very fragile and a light blanket will ensure that the bat is not harmed while you capture it. Once the bat is captured underneath the blanket, you can simply bunch the bottom of the blanket up to take it outside. You want to make sure that this is the only bat in your home. A colony will migrate back into your attic as opposed to a stray bat that accidentally entered. If you are nervous about handling the bat, you can wear protective leather gloves or contact a professional.
Bats are great animals! Unfortunately, the do often choose to roost inside home and buildings, where they can create a big mess. It's a good idea to remove the bats from your belfry or attic, but it's also a great idea to avoid
harming them! Any competent wildlife control expert should have the knowledge and expertise to safely and effectively remove an entire colony of bats from a house without harming or killing a single one. I know that I have a 100%
success rate with bat removal jobs, and I believe the list of companies that I've compiled in my directory is of similar quality. If you want to learn more, please read my How To Get Rid of Bats page.
