I caught this iguana off of a roof.

In my job as a wildlife control operator, I usually deal with the same 8 types of animals: raccoons, squirrels, rats, opossums, armadillos, snakes, bats, and birds. However, from time to time I get a chance to handle an uncommon species. I really relish these jobs. The above photos are all of animals that I don't usually handle. Let’s catch some iguanas - Anytime I receive a call about a snake or iguana spotted in someone’s property, I consider it urgent. Unlike alligators, iguanas and snakes are agile in their movements and can slither out of sight within minutes. For this reason, it is important to catch them as soon as you can. Sometimes my tight schedule and work-related out of town trips do not allow me to respond immediately to such situations. But luckily, I was relatively free the day I received this call and happened to pass by the area too. I told them that I will be there soon and true to my word, twenty minutes later I was on my quest to trap this bright green iguana.

The iguana was sitting comfortably on the roof of the house. I got on the ladder with the snare pole and, as you can guess, my camera. As it turned out, the iguana was camera shy. Although it had been sitting still even by the time I climbed up, it became conscious and started to scurry off the moment I clicked. But I am one relentless animal removal expert. I followed it and grabbed it. Even with its constant struggle, I managed to tie it down and throw it down to the cage.

Since iguanas are not commonly seen roaming around, it is difficult to say where this one turned up from. My only guess is that this was no ordinary iguana and was probably a pet that was set free by the owner for some reason. With the mostly tropical weather of Florida, it is not difficult for these creatures to survive. The best way to get rid of a pet is to call the wildlife conservation rather than let it loose. Such a situation can potentially threaten the people around as well as the animal itself. Since I do not have a permit to remove iguanas, I just dropped it off at a pet shop and went back to enjoying my day.

AAAnimal Control is a privately owned wildlife removal and pest control business, located in Orlando Florida. I deal strictly with wild animals including ones that have died inside houses. I am not an extermination company, but a critter removal and control specialist. The above photos are some of the many that I've taken in the field over my years of work. Please email me if you have any questions about the above photographs, or any questions about wildlife problems or Florida wildlife removal issues.
