Sometimes you've got to cut a hole.

Customer Raccoon Email: David, In your web page "Attic Restoration - Cleanup of Raccoon poop" you mentioned that "To clean the attic, I not only remove all of the waste by hand, I use special cleaners, including an enzyme-based cleaner that eliminates any biohazard organic waste from animals, including droppings and urine" so I am wondering in case I want to replace total insulation, does all dropping should be still removed by hand, and then insulation sucked by vacuum. I am thinking that if insulation is sucked with big vacuum eggs can become airborne if droppings are not first picked by hand. Also professional I asked to clean attic didn't mention that he'll use electric powered atomizer. Appreciate your answer. Pete

My Answer: You can suck up the insulation with a vacuum, hand removal of feces isn't necessary, at least in my opinion.

The raccoon (Procyon lotor), is a common urban animal, and native to North America. Raccoons are easy to recognize, with a black mask and ringed tail, as seen in the above photo. Raccoons tend to weigh between 10-20 pounds as adults, and live an average of 5 years. They are mostly nocturnal, and are omnivores, and will often eat pet food or garbage. They have become very acclimated to living in cities and urban areas. They are very strong, excellent climbers, very intelligent, and they are very skilled with their hands, which causes them to commonly break into homes and attics, where they cause considerable damage, and they also destroy other property, and thus raccoons are considered pest animals by many people, which is why I remove them.
